The Comms Breakfast would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to the dudes from O2 for their insight into the brand new concept that is ‘O2Ville’.
Martyn Wallace - Senior Partner of Scottish practice (Money), Tim Craven (Wifi) and Julian Rolfe (Health) gave the packed ‘Langley Room’ at the Corinthian a real insight into how technology is being developed to cope with the demands on our lives and businesses. O2 who, by the way, employ over 1,500 in Glasgow have been beavering away in their lab to see how they could answer some of the challenges faced within three main areas:
Money; We heard how our mobile and phone devices will replace our wallets enabling us to purchase products and services. We were told that it will be quick and efficient and that leaving your wallet at home won’t be an issue so long as you remember to take your ‘internet’ devices with you.
Wifi; It appears our expectations are that wi-fi should be free, fast and come with auto sign- in. As consumers we are all very demanding therefore, in order for us to engage with and meet our customers needs we need instant access to ‘anything and everything’.
Health; Did you know medical procedures and consultancy can be carried out virtually and that patient records can be managed in real time? However the government will need to keep up with this technology and integrate it into NHS and health sytems, O2 are running pilot schemes with this technology in the remote communities that need it the most such as the Outer Hebridies.
As always there was a lot to cover and the informative presentations were followed by a whirlwind of questions from the audience. O2Ville is a new concept and is still in development so we really appreciate the insight into to what’s round the corner and how we as individuals and businesses can benefit from it.
We were just glad that the bacon butties were instant and not virtual!

Thanks Morag, see you then.
